Now you see him, now you don’t. Shakur Stevenson is one of the most defensively sound fighters in boxing, and the WBC lightweight champion will be looking to keep himself out of danger against hard-hitting challenger Artem Harutyunyan at the Prudential Center in Newark on Saturday, July 6.
The 12-round bout, plus undercard action, will be broadcast by ESPN+ in the U.S.
Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) is an Olympic silver medalist, a three-weight world titleholder and a pound-for-pound entrant. The 27-year-old southpaw has consistently called out the likes of Devin Haney, Vasiliy Lomachenko and Tank Davis for superfights, but none of these matchups have come to fruition.
“I'm going to be at 135 pounds for a minute,” Stevenson told Boxing Scene. “I want to be undisputed at 135 and get the belts one by one.
“I know that my time will come. Tank Davis has nowhere else to go but to fight me. At the end of the day, me and him will have to fight, and that's my opportunity. But for now, we're focused on Artem.”

Harutyunyan (12-1, 7 KOs) is not a household name, but the Armenian-born German is a very tough fighter. Like Stevenson, he competed at the Rio 2016 Olympics and received a bronze medal. Having been fast-tracked as a professional, his only setback came in a very close decision loss to Frank Martin, who was stopped by Tank last month following a competitive fight.
The Sporting News will provide live updates, undercard results, and round-by-round coverage for the main event.
